
Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District Wastewater Treatment Plants
Glesco Electric will be responsible for executing critical electrical upgrades and installations as part of the comprehensive improvements to the Southwest Plant (SWP) and Northeast Plant (NEP) of the Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District.
Southwest Plant (SWP) – Electrical Work Includes:
Power distribution upgrades to support expanded plant capacity and new process equipment.
Electrical integration for new chemically enhanced primary clarifiers, aeration distribution systems, and grit piping improvements.
Installation of control panels and motor starters for secondary clarifier improvements and sludge pump replacements.
Demolition and safe electrical disconnection of existing nitrification towers and the dewatering building.
Lighting and power systems for new and renovated structures, including the sludge storage tank and non-potable water system.
Northeast Plant (NEP) – Electrical Work Includes:
Replacement and commissioning of combined heat and power (CHP) units, which utilize biogas to generate electricity and heat.
Installation of a new biogas conditioning system, including electrical controls and instrumentation.
Upgrades to digester gas piping and mixing equipment, with associated electrical connections and automation.
Integration with plant-wide SCADA systems to ensure seamless monitoring and control of new equipment.
These electrical improvements will enhance the reliability, safety, and energy efficiency of UCSD’s operations, supporting long-term sustainability and service to over 150,000 residents and businesses in the district.
